Case study participant

A case study participant (or case study member) is an individual who takes part in a case study, i.e. in an in-depth, detailed examination within a real-world context. After giving informed consent to be one of the subjects of the research, participation is either on a voluntary basis or research incentives are offered in exchange for participation in the case study. In case study research, participants influence the case study, however, they can also be impacted by the case study and/or other case study participants.
In the context of GRETA, case study participants can be, for example, residents or organisational actors such as energy retailers and cooperatives. Case study participants are considered also as stakeholders of the case study but a stakeholder is not always considered a case study participant (if they are not subjects of the research).
